Hello Friends,
James here. This month, Erin and I had some time off and I was presented with the opportunity to drive across the United States and tour much of the west coast performing with a band. Stepping in for their bass player, I played bass guitar for Astronoid, a dreamy and heavy band comprised of my best pals from college. We were blessed with the opportunity of opening for the legendary Boston-based band “Cave In”.
What an adventure it was… The drive was long and full of all kinds of obstacles. Wyoming did its very best to blow us straight off the road with blizzard conditions. Somehow I managed to drive the tour van (with a trailer in tow) up and down icy slopes without being able to see much of anything.
In Las Vegas our van was robbed and we had some of our lighting equipment stolen. We may have also spent a few hours gambling in a nearby casino while this was happening…
This did not deter us though, and we were able to keep the performances going!
I was occasionally able to snap a few photos of Cave In playing their incredible set just after ours. The landscapes also offered me so many incredible views out of the van windows. I wish I could have stopped to take them all in, and to take photos to my heart’s content, but we had to keep moving to the next gig every day.
This was my first trip to the Pacific Coast and I’m so happy that I was able to do so playing music with some of my dearest friends. Photography and music are my two loves, and I expect that they will be a central part of my life until my last days.
You can check out Astronoid’s latest album “Radiant Bloom” pretty much anywhere you stream music.
I hope everyone enjoy’s their end of year holidays, however they choose to celebrate.
Cheers,
James
